When I Grow Up

A few days ago my child told me "When I grow up, I want to have a big fancy pick-up truck!". I laughed and gave him the same type of answer my parents gave me when I was a child; "That sounds nice! You better do really well in school and get a good job and make lots of money to pay for that big old fancy pick-up truck!". I found myself stewing on my reponse for a while. Thankfully, the Lord gave me a re-do just a few hours later when all three of my big boys were talking about what they want to be when they grow up. If their plans work out I will be the mother of a fireman, a basketball player, and a construction worker. I told them how proud of them I would be, but what would make me even more proud is if they were doing what God wanted them to do. I told them He has a plan for their life and they first must pray and ask God what HE wants them to be when they grow up, and I let them know that I will be praying for them too. More than anything else I want them to follow God's direction and plan for their life. I was so blessed by that conversation with my boys, and I'm so excited to see the plan God has for them!

Lord,
Thank you for my boys. All four of them are SO full of energy and life and I pray that they use that energy and passion to serve you. Guide and direct them, bind their hearts to yours, I want them to fall head over heels in love with you. I pray they submit their lives, plans, and futures to you Lord. Reveal yourself to them.

As their mother, help me not to get in your way, Lord. I lay my pride down. I want them to be succesfull in YOU, not in wordly things. Give me the wisdom to train them up to love you. Help me lead my children by example, watching a mother and father that want to follow God's direction and plan for our lives. Always trusting, hoping, waiting in you.
In Jesus name,
Amen

Never underestimate the power of a praying mother!

Our "choo-choo train" wagon!

Hello! Once again time has flown by and it has been a while since my last post. Last weekend Matt and I were both sick for about 3 days with the flu, and this weekend Ben was up all night on Friday with it, and is just now starting to feel better. They all have colds that have moved down into their chests, and despite breathing treatments they are very wheezy. They still have plenty of energy though... Charlie and Sam are getting very good at using their walkers (just not turning around!), and Ben is walking along furniture. Sam recently discovered how to clap and thinks that is great, and all the boys love to dance now whenever their toys make music. It is so fun to watch. They are getting so big and are so much fun at this stage. This weekend it was so nice we decided to take them to the park down the street. Matt worked on Saturday so my sister and I took the boys and her daughter, and on Sunday Matt and I took them again. It was nice to get them out in the fresh air and they looked so cute in their new wagon from Grandma and Grandpa Bryan for Christmas!

First Birthday Pics!

I'm so sorry it's been so long! Last week was a hectic week- I started watching my friend's baby. Her name is Kylin, she is about 2 months old and she is precious- her Mommy just went back to work so four days a week she spends her days with us. This week has been much better, but our internet was down and I just got around to calling Cox last night. For those of you who haven't seen them yet, I thought I would share their first birthday pictures. We had them taken two weekends ago and they turned out great!
We also had their one yr. doctor appt. last week. Ben is weighing in at 18 lbs, Sam is 20.6 lbs, and Charlie is 22.8 lbs. They are all doing great and only requiring breathing treatments when they have colds to help with the congestion. I'll post more as soon as I can!
love,
the Iricks

We're ONE!!!!

Happy 2008! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas/New Years. Everything happened so fast for us that we haven't had much time to reflect... We had an AWESOME first Christmas though, it was so fun to be home and settled and best of all we didn't have to worry about Daddy being gone! The boys had fun 'unwrapping' their presents (aka eating the paper and playing with the boxes!). We took them to a Christmas Eve service and they did great! The day after Christmas we celebrated again when Grandma Trudy and Grandpa Roger came to town (Matt's mom and stepdad). The next day we had their first birthday party... we got more toys then we can play with! At first I didn't know what to do with them all, but now I'm happy with the abundance of toys.... they're only little once and they deserve them ALL! We had a full house for their party... so many people have prayed over these boys and watched them grow into healthy big babies. It was such a fun celebration and such a special first birthday. And still, we had one more celebration- New Year's Eve, which is also Matt and I's 3rd anniversary. It was our first anniversary we were able to get out and celebrate- we went to dinner and a party at my friends house and had a blast! We have been so blessed in the past year, it will be a hard one to top but we will have fun trying!
